Strong Industry–Academia Alliance to Establish a New Benchmark for Smart Machinery

National Formosa University, as a cradle for precision machinery and smart manufacturing talent in central Taiwan, is led by Dean Tzu-Guei Huang of the College of Engineering, who is committed to promoting practical teaching across the seven departments of the college and strengthening the development of industry–academia collaboration. This collaboration introduces the Designcenter Solid Edge digital development platform, providing 200 software licenses to offer students comprehensive training from part modeling, assembly design, CAE simulation analysis, to precision machining, ensuring seamless integration with industry demands.

Designcenter Solid Edge Technical Core: Leading the Digital Twin Trend The core of this collaboration lies in the introduction of

Designcenter Solid Edge Synchronous Technology, enabling students to master the following during their studies:

  • High-performance modeling: Combining the advantages of parametric and history-free modeling to rapidly respond to design changes.

  • Production line simulation: Utilizing digital twin technology to conduct interference checks and stress analysis before actual production.

  • International certification: Assisting students in obtaining the CSEA certification to enhance employment competitiveness.

Hao-Chang Chen, Chairman and General Manager of Siemens Digital Industries Software Taiwan, stated: “Through our collaboration with National Formosa University, we can bring the latest industry design thinking back to campus and jointly promote the digital transformation of Taiwan’s precision machinery industry.” The program also provides credible certification qualifications to bridge skill gaps in the digital transformation process and cultivate a future talent pool. Certification is not only the accumulation of credentials but also builds professional confidence, validates technical capabilities, and ensures that professionals remain competitive in the market. In July 2025, Siemens launched a new “Expedite – Industry Skills Microcredential” course on the Coursera platform, covering industrial fundamentals, design and manufacturing (PLM), emerging technologies, as well as business thinking and core skills. The course is carefully designed based on feedback from customers and partners, incorporating AI virtual instructors and scenario-based learning to provide an interactive learning experience.

Liang-Hsien Yu, General Manager of Cade Technology, stated that in response to the transformation needs of smart manufacturing, Cade Technology is committed to introducing the mainstream industry solution, Designcenter Solid Edge, into campus training. By providing a software environment synchronized with industrial practices, students can experience real-world development processes and technical challenges during their studies. Yu emphasized that the core objective is to bridge the gap between academia and industry, enabling students to possess solid practical capabilities before graduation, truly achieving the vision of “job-ready upon graduation.”
